About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Ctr, Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) located in Vicksburg, MS.

Duties
Demonstrate exceptional analysis, planning, and coding skills by conducting research, development, and deployment of mathematical, statistical, and computer-simulated models and application methods.
Assist in the gather of requirements, development of software requirement documents, and make recommendations for product development of data and decision analytic tool.
Provide application of the theoretical foundations of secure software development for facilitating Department of Defense computational systems.
Work collaboratively with ERDC team and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
Provide software development and program management, guidance, advisory support, and assistance with projects assigned to the Institute for System Engineer Research.
Provide specialized knowledge and broad areas of applications of software development techniques in support of ERDC programs.
Maintain technical proficiency in the areas of software development and computer science through interaction with technical and professional organizations, academia, contractors, and other research organizations.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships in difficult situations.
Treat others with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect to engage and inspire others.
Consider and respond appropriately to the needs and feeling of different audiences, situations, and cultures.
Conduct high quality research and development by recognition of research and development accomplishments through awards from professional or technical societies.
Conduct high-quality, broad-based Computer Science research and development and reimbursable work as evidenced by (a) authorship of professional journal articles, technical reports, conference proceedings, etc.
Deliver rehearsed and impromptu technical briefings and presentations including decision meetings before audiences of peers, sponsors, and higher-level officials.
Prepare clear and concise policy and procedural guidance for other professionals.
Communicate effectively in meetings that are adversarial or have potential for adverse program impacts.

Basic Requirement for Computer Scientist:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in computer science or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing software required documents, making recommendations for product development and/or present technical briefings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-02(GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
