About the Position: Serves as an environmental manager responsible for the execution of environmental, planning programs for the civil and military functions of the Corps within the environmentally and culturally diverse eight-state region of the Sacramento District.
Duties
As the technical environmental lead for complex or unusual projects, coordinates, guides, and reviews the work of lower graded or less experienced employees on projects and components of large projects.
Personally performs or directs the more complex or novel assignments.
Draws on the specialized expertise of others in the District and Region as needed to accomplish the work.
Accomplishes environmental protection, through interpretation and implementation of numerous laws, executive orders, regulations, and policies dealing with the human environment.

Basic Requirement for General Biological Science Environmental Manager -0401:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Basic Requirement for Ecologist -0408:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.
Basic Requirement for Botanist -0430:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in botany; or basic plant science that included at least 24 semester hours in botany.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in botany or basic plant science that included at least 24 semester hours in botany, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Basic Requirement for Fish Biologist -0482:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields, or excess course work (beyond the required 6 semester hours) in aquatic subjects.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Basic Requirement for Landscape Architect -0807:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in landscape architecture or landscape design.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: For each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had one year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you MUST also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Knowledge of compliance with environmental laws and regulations such as but not limited to; Clean Water Act (CWA), Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 (RHA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (FWCA), carry out environmental impact analyses pertaining to biological resources, natural resources, water resources, or human-made resources, preparing environmental compliance documentation (including NEPA documents) or implement environmental compliance requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
