The Laundry Worker is assigned to the Laundry/Textile Plant Section of the Environmental Management Service at West Palm Beach VA Medical Center. The Laundry Worker rotates through a variety of work sites in the textile care processing facility throughout tour of duty to meet workload demands.
Duties
Major Duties include, but not limited to:
Must have skill and knowledge to operate textile care equipment.
Feed towels through towel folding machine.
Responsible for the proper and safe operation of equipment of which he/she maybe assigned.
Incumbent is responsible for keeping work area neat and clean.
Incumbent will be assigned end of the day cleaning duties that will include cleaning of locker rooms, work area and certain equipment.
Maybe responsible for cleaning and waxing flat-work ironer and replacing the ribbon.
Required to load linen carts according to approved linen quota. Maybe required to deliver linen and/or uniforms throughout the facility.
Process personal clothing and government owned uniforms by sorting linen by type and grouping items according to classification area.
Hand fold pajamas, robes and other rough dry items according established procedures.
Must have the ability to read laundry tickets, simple counting, alphabetize or put items in order by number. Accuracy is required when performing these task to avoid loss of items or miscounting.
Proper stacking, counting and weighing linen and scrub-suits are required.
Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Shake out articles of wet linen checking for knots, holes, rips, stains and any damage linen.
Mark and patch linen/uniforms when required.
Inspect linen and uniforms and determines whether serviceable or if found to be damage or heavily soiled recipient and supervisor will be notified.
Responsible for performing duties in a safe and efficient manner and to adhering to infection control, safety procedures.
Assist with unloading linen from trucks. Dump linen bags on conveyor system for transporting to sorting and classification area.
Required to wear personal protective equipment PPE gloves, masks, gowns, and other protective clothing as indicated.
Work Schedule: 7am to 3:30pm, rotating weekends

Physical Requirements: Workers must stand or walk continuously on concrete floors. Incumbent must possess the limited ability to bend, stoop, reach and have good hand-eye coordination. Most of the jobs require workers to frequently lift bundles weighting tip to 20 pounds; however, in receiving and shipping, occasional lifting of bulk bundles weighting up to 50 pounds is required.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
