About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Duties

Repair ski equipment. Repair scuba equipment. Repair and recondition multi-speed bicycles. Store, issue, receive, turn-in, maintain and/or account for equipment, security, tools, supplies and/or repair parts. Assist with setups and teardowns of athletic equipment. Assemble, disassemble, and install equipment. Lay out, measure and mark fields for football, soccer, lacrosse, softball, flickerball, cross country, physical fitness testing, and confidence/obstacle courses. Conduct visual inspections of equipment for safety and perform maintenance and repair such as oil, change of gears, and shafts on exercise equipment. Paint and stain furniture and equipment. Operate a truck (less than 10,000 pounds) with a trailer to transport equipment and passengers.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position is identified as a Drug Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance and more than 50 pounds with assistance.
  • The duties of this position require a valid New York State driver's license.
  • This position requires operation of a truck (less than 10,000 pounds) with a trailer.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Routinely lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently handle objects weighing over 50 pounds, using lifting equipment or coworkers as needed for assistance. May work up to heights of 40 feet. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed within the gymnasium to include the storage, shop and athletic areas. These areas are lighted, heated and ventilated. Shop areas expose the employee to dust and high noise levels when working on machines and equipment. Employee is required to work outside in marking fields which causes exposure to varying weather conditions. Repair and maintenance work exposes employee to cuts, burns, scrapes, strain from lifting heavy equipment and slips on wet floor areas. Required to follow all safety procedures and wear issued safety equipment, i.e., shoes, glasses, gloves, and ear plugs.
