This position is a Housekeeping Aid Training Leader located within the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Medical Center. This position is under the direct supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor or Hospital Housekeeping Officer or designee. This position leads and performs janitorial/ custodial services at VA Medical Center in Salem Virginia Medical Center.

Duties

Duties The Housekeeping Aid Leader is responsible for leading Housekeeping Aids in accomplishing housekeeping related services in the various areas of an active medical center. The Leader demonstrates proper work methods, guides other workers in procedures, policies, instructions; assures safety rules are followed; and reports to the supervisor on progress of work or delays. In addition, the Leader works along with other Housekeeping Aids and executes a full range of housekeeping activities in patient and non-patient care areas. The position is responsible for ensuring that all housekeeping assignments are assigned and completed in a timely manner. Performs housekeeping skills at the journeyman level to include cleaning, dusting, wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping, polishing, and washing walls. Vacuums and shampoos carpeting using heavy industrial type equipment. Removes and rehangs window blinds, shades, and draperies. Works from stepladder when cleaning light fixtures or walls. Operates floor scrubbing machines and floor buffing machines. Cleans rest rooms, bathrooms, and shower rooms, ensuring that they are cleaned and meet acceptable standards (cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes lavatories, showers, bathtubs, urinals, and toilet bowls; cleans mirrors, sinks, and water fountains; washes and polishes light and toilet fixtures). Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 1st Shift 7:00am - 3:30pm, 2nd Shift 3:00 pm - 11:30pm, & 3rd Shift 11:00pm - 7:30am. To include rotating days off, rotating weekends, and holidays. Recruitment & Relocation Incentive: Not authorized.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
