This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Direct Hiring Authority-DIB & MRTFB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. Employees work a 4/10 work week, Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and daily childcare available.

Duties

Perform HVAC and R Repair and Overhaul. Diagnose, locate and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Disassemble and repair a variety of components including compressors, evaporators, condensers, cooling coils, air handlers, bearings, water control valves, air dampers, etc. L Repair Services and Overhauls Electronic, Electric and Pneumatic Control Systems. Troubleshoot main problems through the microprocessor, then using knowledge of the refrigeration cycle, electrical and electronic systems with schematic drawings, diagnose the exact fault and corrects. Disassemble, repair and/or adjust a wide variety of complex, sensitive electronic and pneumatic control systems for heating, cooling and ventilation.

Requirements

• Be certified in proper refrigerant practices with Universal certification, as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F, approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 09/30/93.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Perform the common duties/tasks associated with the position as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic installing commercial and/or industrial air conditioning, refrigeration and HVAC units and equipment. Perform routine tasks associated with the maintenance and repairs of commercial and/or industrial air conditioning, refrigeration and HVAC units and equipment. Detect leaks on equipment and making electrical connections and working the refrigerant in accordance with EPA standards. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Air conditioning systems and heating systems and parts frequently have to be dismantled to allow access to controls located in very confined areas or areas with extremely low overhead. The parts frequently weigh up to 50 pounds. Operates hoists, holders and pulleys when necessary. Makes use of ladders, scaffolding and platforms in performance of work. Working Conditions: Often works on controls in cramped areas requiring stooping, bending, kneeling or stretched out positions for long periods for extensive repairs on controls. Is usually exposed to conditions that may cause cuts, bruises, electrical shocks and respiratory disorders. At times, may work on top of tall buildings. Wears face mask and protective clothing when possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants exists. Is exposed to sudden temperature changes.
