Duties
Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status (August-September) for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Natchez Trace Parkway is April - September, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.
This position can be located within the Natchez Trace Parkway district: Kosciusko, Mississippi; Natchez, Mississippi; Port Gibson, Mississippi; Tupelo, Mississippi; Franklin, Tennessee; or Hohenwald, Tennessee.
The incumbent performs a wide range of duties to support management of the Natchez Trace Parkway, the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail, and Old Natchez Trace trail segments. Duties include trail maintenance and repairs; operation and maintenance of trail equipment; marking trails to meet public needs; delivering trail materials and supplies to work locations; responding to trail problems reported by visitors (such as downed timber); and working with youth groups and volunteers on trail rehabilitation projects. The position also supports Maintenance Division operations by performing routine groundskeeping, painting, carpentry, trash pickup, janitorial, and weed trimming. Incumbent must be able to operate motor vehicles to transport crews, tools, and equipment; operate hand and power tools, string trimmers, zero turn riding lawn mowers, and compact tractors.
