Clinical Deployment Team/Float Senior Social Worker. The primary role is to be a member of the VASLCHCS CDT which is part of a national effort to support VHA's Fourth Mission: assisting communities in times of crisis. The employee will be continuously ready to deploy to a variety of settings and will be trained in emergency response. This model is influenced by the Veterans Health Administration's experience in responding to natural and manmade emergencies, and the COVID 19 Pandemic.

Review all subjective and objective data and make a clinical assessment identifying needs and strengths. Uses professional judgment and advanced practice skills to make a psychosocial diagnosis. Develops individualized psychosocial treatment plans including goals for program participation and clinical treatment. Adjusts the psychosocial treatment plan based on changing needs and Veteran's response to interventions. Implements treatment modalities to achieve treatment goals using judgement and skills in utilizing supportive, problem solving, or crisis intervention techniques. Utilizes knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures to formulate a treatment plan. Monitors Veteran's progress, meets with Veteran to assess accomplishments, makes recommendations for care and, as appropriate, re-establishes or makes changes to identified goals. Utilizes knowledge of community resources, makes referrals to the community and other government agencies as appropriate, and coordinates services. Uses advanced clinical training, insight, and experience to interpret data and identify viable treatment options. Effectively use professional skill, objectivity, and insight to make referrals to VA and community-based services, including VA benefits and other non-VA entitlement programs. Evaluates the Veteran's situation, abilities, and capabilities, arriving at a reasoned conclusion including level of vulnerability. Independently conducts psychosocial assessments and treatment interventions to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diversified backgrounds. Provides direct psychosocial and mental health services for Veterans, family members, and/or significant others in support of the Veteran's treatment. They may offer advice, guidance, emotional support, and provide other assistance as appropriate.. Provides individual and group therapy/counseling services as well as basic crisis management services needed to maintain the Veteran safely in their residence. Assist and encourage Veterans in facing problems, fully evaluating situations, considering alternative courses of action, and arriving at plans for using resources to resolve problems.. Professional judgment, including knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior, is an inherent competency applied in daily interactions with Veterans. Demonstrated ability to serve Veterans with frequent and severe crises, who lack family or an adequate community support network Use's varied modalities of care, they can find suitable means to help Veteran patients cope with stressful situations. Incorporates complex multiple causations in differential diagnoses and treatments within approved clinical privileges. Independently documents all clinical interactions/ information in the electronic health record according to established policy, including psychosocial assessments, diagnostics, Measurement Based Care, treatment, progress notes, follow up and referrals. They ensure expert diagnosis and treatment of clinical disorders showing competent discretion in decisions to adjust treatment. Evaluates their practice on an on-going basis through participation in professional peer review, case conferences, research studies, or other organized means. They are active in and accept responsibility for the development and maintenance of professional standards of care in medical, mental health, and disaster settings. They willingly accept additional and special assignments that are necessary to meet program goals and/or customer needs. Provides consultation and advocacy. Provides specialized consultation to colleagues and trainees on the psychosocial treatment of Veterans in a variety of service delivery areas, as well as role models effective social work practice skills. Demonstrates the ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to various service delivery areas. Works closely with other VASLCHCS programs and services to ensure coordination between entities is facilitated and direct care, referral. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Grade Determinations: Senior Social Worker, GS-12 Experience/Education. The candidate must have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. Licensure/Certification. Senior social workers must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. (b) Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. (c) Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes. (d) Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-11 to GS-12. Physical Requirements: VA Directive and Handbook 5019, Employee Occupational Health Services. The work involves long periods of moving about the work unit. The work requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, lifting of 25 to 50 pounds. Incumbent may be exposed to patients who are combative, secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders and patients who require restraints. The incumbent must be a mature, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, demonstrating cheerfulness, compassion, courtesy, and concern. Must be quick and dependable in taking emergency action in using initiative to prevent accidents. Social Worker must be able to pass VA requirements for operation of a government vehicle. Position requires walking throughout the clinic and/or Medical Center, standing for extended periods of time, and involves sitting at a computer and in counsel and consultation with Veterans and interdisciplinary teams. Position requires the ability to travel and deploy with minimal notice to assist with communities in crisis. Conditions while on deployment may be less than optimal and hours may be extended tours requiring flexibility to meet the mission. This position also requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
