The incumbent will do proper installation, inspection, calibration, operation, maintenance and repair of complex electronic medical and diagnostic equipment and systems, will also serve as a maintenance mechanic. This position reports directly to the Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist.
Duties
Installs, repairs, and modifies biomedical, laboratory and dental equipment and technical support equipment systems
Inspects, calibrates and does preventive maintenance on biomedical equipment and support systems
Performs safety inspections by inspecting and testing all medical and patient-related non-medical equipment systems
Performs maintenance administration functions by documenting maintenance actions on a computerized maintenance management system.
Patch, paint and repair drywall as needed
Change filters, clean condensers and evaporators, routine check of belts and mechanical parts
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05: Three (3) years general experience,1 year of which is equivalent to at the GS-4 with the particular knowledge, skill, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position of the biomedical equipment support specialist.
OR
Four 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
GS-07: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Servicing and repairing electronic, electromechanical, pneumatic, and medical devices. Experience at this level may have been gained through training or through experience in setting up and installing new patient care systems, conducting preventative maintenance checks and services (PM) inspections of patient care equipment; investigating patient care equipment failures, hazard alerts, recalls, updates and incidents.;
OR One full year of graduate level education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work;
OR Superior academic achievement in a Bachelor's degree curriculum;
OR A combination of education and specialized experience as described above.
GS-09: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Working as a Biomedical Equipment Technician for a hospital, health center, original equipment manufacturer of medical equipment as a field service technician/engineer, or a nationally recognized Independent Service Organization as a field service technician/engineer
OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related
OR A combination of education and specialized experience as described above.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
