This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a Social Services Assistant in a clinical setting on a multidisciplinary treatment team dealing with mental health issues. Applies a collaborative team approach, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates options and services to meet complex mental health needs of the Soldier

Duties

Participates as a member of the mental health multidisciplinary team that coordinates care for Soldiers and assists in accessing the appropriate level of mental health care. Develops support caseload as directed by the clinical mental health providers. Follows all recommended mental health administrative discharges during the process, maintains communication with Soldier and provider on a weekly basis, or more frequent basis, enters all progress in the database for trend analysis. Ensures through facilitation, negotiation, procurement, advocacy, communication, empowerment, quality care, and involvement necessary for the achievement of mutually developed treatment goals. Inputs data, monitor reports, maintain connectivity with case managers, assures follow-up plans are carried out, and queries information appropriate to the Soldier's care.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation, Tier 1.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires a seasonal mandatory Influenza vaccine.
  • Requires screening for applicable immunizations regardless of series, based on occupational risk, and are subject to missing/required immunizations in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating mental health clients to determine required services; facilitating psycho-educational or support groups; and maintaining patient files. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Child and Family Welfare, Counseling, Family and Community Services, Behavioral Science, Human Development, Sociology, and Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. The total must equal at least 100% to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
