Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a litigation support team that is responsible for providing a wide range of automated litigation and legal support services to Assistant United States Attorneys. Legal support services include assistance with case management and case presentation as well as automated case litigation programs. Typical work assignments will include: Performing routine litigation support tasks necessary to process common electronically stored information (e.g., PDF files, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint files, emails, etc.) and prepare it for review or production by the litigation team; Maintaining accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials, adhering to office tracking protocols; Utilizing various software applications to efficiently open and close cases, organize, analyze and present case materials for discovery; Generating basic electronic discovery productions (e.g., Bates-numbered images with redactions and searchable text) that comply with production specifications and deadlines, including productions from document review databases; Preparing exhibits for legal proceedings involving a wide range of visual materials including charts, diagrams, photographs, and models; Working with litigation team members to understand case presentation needs and suggesting methods or software applications for presenting evidence or producing demonstrative exhibits; Creating electronic versions of exhibits for court filings, depositions, hearings, or trials. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions: Specialized Experience, Education, a combination of Education and Experience or Superior Academic Achievement. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is defined as: performing routine litigation support assignments such as assisting with organizing case information; preparing discovery productions, including scanning and coding documents and creating CDs; assisting attorneys in preparing for court, such as preparing exhibits, including audio and video files; assisting in the use of technology to organize digital evidence; preparing computerized courtroom presentations and preparing, drafting, and editing a variety of legal and trial related documents. Education: One full year of graduate education in a closely related field (.g. Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Law) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of the position. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required graduate education you have earned. Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Transcripts are required) Superior Academic Achievement: Possess a Bachelor's Degree or expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the next 9 months AND possess at least one of the following criteria: class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; an overall GPA of 3.0 OR at least a 3.0 based on courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; a GPA of at least 3.5 based on the average of required courses completed in my major field OR based on the average of required courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; OR election to membership in a national scholastic honor society, Transcripts are required. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
