This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Performs repair work on a variety of heavy tracked combat equipmen and this position is assigned to the Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM), Fort Sill, OK.

Duties

Determine parts required by review of technical and supply manuals to determine proper part number and/or national stock number. Accountable for all tools and equipment used in the performance of duties. Operate contact truck completely equipped to include tools, welding and cutting equipment, test equipment, generator, and air compressor. Operate recovery vehicle (M88 FOV) to include boom, snatch blocks outrigger, winches, tow bars, and any other equipment assigned to the section to test equipment. Perform inspections of engine, powertrain, and chassis components before and after support maintenance repair or overhaul. Remove and replace new or rebuilt assemblies, such as voltage regulators, generators, brake or hydraulic cylinders, electric motors, hydraulic pumps, turbochargers, starter motors, road wheels, idler arms, hubs, final drives, or torsion bars. Perform diagnostic tests and observes the operation and general condition of equipment. Inspect, trouble shoot, and repair equipment using diagnostic test equipment, such as, compression tester, timing light tach, dwell meter, and multimeter.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Will be required to pass a pre-employment medical examination.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Moves heavier items with assistance of other workers and with lifting devices.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state or territory of the United States driver's license to operate Government / military equipment for the purpose of recovery, troubleshooting, and road testing.
  • Will be required to work shift work, overtime, nights, weekends and holidays as well as on site repair in a field environment, emergency maintenance and recovery operations.
  • This position is TERM NTE 6 years. Position may be made permanent without further competition.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer duties. I am skilled in: Cleaning, repairing, reinstalling or replacing defective parts or components and systems on heavy mobile and track equipment; Operating gas and electric welding equipment to perform repairs; Determining parts required by review of technical and supply manuals; Performing visual and/or mechanical inspections of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems with the turret and gun assemblies of combat vehicles; and Performing inspections of engine, power-train, and chassis components before and after support maintenance repair or overhaul. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence.Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Works in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Works on top and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Frequently lifts and carries up to 40 to 50 pounds and lifts and moves heavier items with assistance of other workers and with lifting devices. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside maintenance facility, outside at an unannounced field location, and/or in a lighted shop. Works in a dirty, greasy, muddy, and noisy atmosphere. Frequent exposure to the possibility cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, and strains. Work involves constant exposure to exhaust fumes and exposure to weather (hot and cold, rain and snow). Operates vehicle in all types of traffic and weather conditions. Worker is exposed to possible serious accidents.
