About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center at Fort Leonard Wood. Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County, Missouri. Bordering the installation to the North are the towns of Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2 hour drive to the East along I-44 and Springfield is a little more than an hour's drive to the West of Fort Leonard Wood.

Duties

Determine whether to repair damaged parts or replace them with fabricated or factory replacement parts. Perform body, fender, and frame component repair on a variety of vehicles and equipment. Prepare unpainted surfaces by methods such as smoothing with pumice and rottenstone, filing, shaping, and leveling with metal and synthetic resins, and mixing and applying precoating agents. Repair tears, breaks, and cracks in fiberglass body components. Spray paint various types of tactical and non-tactical vehicles. Use premixed paints and thins or adds dryer or flattening agents to assure proper finish, thickness. Apply chemical compounded paints designed for special purposes such as crinkle finishes, nonskid, rubber coatings.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is subject to a medical clearance examination prior to employment. This position requires an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required and must be maintained for the position.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid government motor vehicle operator's license authorizing the operation of vehicles and equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift operator certificate within 90 days.

I can 1) determine repairs to damaged parts or replace them with fabricated or factory parts using material such as wood, metal sheet, composites, etc. on a variety of tactical and non-tactical vehicles, construction equipment, generators, fire-fighting equipment, pick-up trucks, cargo trucks, buses, etc.; and 2) perform painting, refinishing, and sandblasting to include the operating, control, and preventive maintenance. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal WorkDexterity (Assembly, Disassembly, Reassembly, etc.)Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (Includes Constructing, Repair, and Forging)Layout and Pattern Development (Includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation) Physical Efforts: The employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Repairs, preparations and or coatings are completed while the vehicle is overhead or while on ladders and platforms. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally incumbent must lift and carry heavier items with assistance from others. There is frequent use of fingers and reaching above shoulder height. Climbing is required with use of both arms and legs. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed inside in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated area and occasionally outside in hot, cold, humid, damp, chilling, or dry atmosphere conditions. Exposed to drafts, and fumes from vehicles are usually present. The employee must stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Works on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, around objects or vehicles, and ladders. Vehicle fluids, such as battery acids and hydraulic fluids may cause burns or irritate the skin. Exposed to dirt, dust, grease, odors, smoke, gases, and high noise levels. Subject to the possibility of burns, eye injury from infrared and ultraviolet rays, cuts, bruises, abrasions, and electric shock. Employee is required to use protective clothing or gear such as welding masks, apron, safety shoes, goggles, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and required PPE when painting or sandblasting.
