About the Position: This Administrative Support Assistant GS-0303-07 position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division, Fort Worth District, Rio Grande Area Office located in McAllen, TX.

Duties

Formulate and monitors the annual operating budget of the area office. Analyze each cost item (labor, travel, vehicles, equipment, pay estimates for contractors, supplies, VISA purchases, etc.) to determine proper financial management procedures for each item. Monitor obligations and expenditures throughout the budget period. Reports and explains to the Area engineer deviations from the budgeted execution schedule. Serve as Area Office Training Coordinator by formulating the proposed annual training plan and monitoring the approved plan. Responsible for ensuring maintenance of complete files, sufficient to satisfy audits for all contracts.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) Travel is required up to 15% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Consolidating data to assist in budget development for an office/organization; AND 2) Utilizing automated software to complete at least 3 various tasks such as data entry, drafting reports, email correspondence, organize travel arrangements, or procure supplies, equipment, and/or materials for an office/organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration or Management, Human Resources, etc. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: The position being filled is a 1 grade interval position, which is being filled at the GS-07 level. Normally applicants are required to have specialized experience and time in grade at the GS-06 level for this series and grade. The organization does not have any permanent GS-06 positions so for this recruitment applicants may qualify for the GS-07 level if they possess 1 year of specialized experience and time in grade at the GS-05 level. Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
