The United States Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Alabama is recruiting for a Temporary Criminal Assistant United States Attorney to handle prescription opioid-related drug and fraud cases in furthering the District's mission to represent the interests of the United States in litigation and community affairs related to law enforcement. This position is located in the main office in Birmingham. As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement.

Duties

The person chosen for this position as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA), located in the Criminal Division of our Birmingham office, will be responsible for building and prosecuting cases related to the unlawful prescribing and diversion of potent opioids. The cases may involve drug crimes, health care fraud, kickbacks, tax and money laundering, and related conduct. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in the Department's ongoing battle against the opioid epidemic and will be expected to handle complex cases involving many witnesses and voluminous discovery. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Qualifications
