As an Interpreter (American Sign Language) at the GS-1040-12, you will be part of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. If selected, you will be responsible for providing interpreting services for the assigned field office employee(s) and visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing.
This is an Excepted Service position.
Duties
Serve as the office interpreter in a variety of settings.
Interpret for visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Provide sight translation from English text to ASL and from ASL to English text involving position statements, charge files and various other documents.
Interpret in the preferred communication mode of the employee or visitor.
Provide reading assistance when requested to employees.
Provide sight translation (proofreading) reports, forms, etc., for English equivalency.

- Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
Qualifications
For the GS-12: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, OR equivalent public or private sector experience. For this position, specialized experience is defined as: interpreting for deaf or hard of hearing individuals and providing reading assistance for individuals with visual impairments.
