As such, the Regional Operations organization is seeking a Data Scientist for a position located in Chicago Regional Office. The Data Scientist will be part of the Office of Assistant Regional Director of Operations.
Duties

Typical duties include:
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses and evaluations using a wide variety of commercial and SEC databases.
- Use data mining to collect, analyze and interpret structured and unstructured information.
- Create scalable tools, dashboards, visualizations or interactive features with software such as Python or R, Power BI, Tableau, and/or ArcGIS applications, and using the results of quantitative analyses to tell compelling stories.
- Identify data needs and employ appropriate methods for data collection, extraction, integration, preparation, quality, and governance from internal and external sources to meet customer expectations.
- Utilize various programming languages (Python, R and SQL), analytic techniques, and tools to develop statistical algorithms and models, automate data conditioning and analysis, support machine learning, and generate visualizations for predictive and prescriptive modeling.
- Perform time series, geospatial, and geospatial temporal data analysis and mining in ArcGIS/QGIS and programmatically in Python/R.- Perform complex and difficult data and analytics assignments to ensure program goals and project objectives are met.

Qualifications

SK-12 Time-in-grade for this announcement is one year at the GS/SK-11 level.
SK-13 Time-in-grade for this announcement is one year at the GS/SK-12 level.
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement
SK-12: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-11 level: utilizing basic machine learning, artificial intelligence and/or GIS analytics techniques on datasets using Python or comparable programming languages.
SK-13: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-12 level:
(1) utilizing basic machine learning, artificial intelligence and/or GIS analytics techniques on datasets using Python (or comparable) programming language, visualization frameworks/technologies (e.g., Power BI, SharePoint), and
(2) knowledge of climate artificial intelligence.
