This position serves as an Electrician for the Sioux Falls VA Healthcare System located in Sioux Falls, SD. The incumbent is assigned a wide variety of duties of a journeyman electrician involving installation, modification, repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance and testing of complex electrical systems, circuits, equipment, appliances, controls, components, lighting fixtures and fire alarm systems.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, modifying, installing, testing, and inspecting all electrical devices, systems, components, and other electrical equipment. Reading amperage, tests phase rotation, and frequency requirements to distribution panels, switchgear, power and control circuits, industrial multiphase systems and other similar systems. Constructing and installing EMT and rigid conduits. Pulling in conductors, phase out and connect conductors. Troubleshooting distribution circuits and generating and controlling equipment to locate and correct the causes of outages and improper operation. Making emergency cutouts and substitutions of power lines and equipment. Checking conditions of transformers, switches, capacitors equipment, and cables. Planning and lying out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls. Operating, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing emergency and stand by generator power systems. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Working Conditions: Electricians are exposed to a variety of weather conditions, both in winter and summer, in making repairs and installations on exterior work sites. During emergency repairs, extremes of bad weather are sometimes present. Many work sites are hot, dirty, dusty, greasy, poorly lit, cramped and with unpleasant orders. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to work in the vicinity of asbestos containing materials. The incumbent will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary to accomplish assigned tasks in a safe manner.
