This position serves as a Painter at the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC. The Painter works in the General Support Shop and reports directly to the Supervisory Maintenance Mechanic.

Duties

The duties of the Painter include, but are not limited to: Preparing area for painting or handing by removing and/or protecting furnishings Installing drop clothes, masking tape, furniture covers, etc. Levels surfaces using synthetic resins, plastics, and/or other patching compounds. Mixes coating materials to the desired color, texture, and uniformity by tinting, toning, matching, blending and mixing in various additives. Applying coating material using trade devices such as brushes, rollers, various types of spray guns and graining devices. Monitors supply usage and recommend procurement as needs arise. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Painter/PD02074A Physical Requirements: This position must frequently lift, carry, and set up materials and equipment that weighs up to ten pounds. Occasionally, he/she may handle materials and equipment that weighs 40 pounds and over. Incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent climbs ladders and reaches above head level to scrape, sand, putty and paint surfaces in cramped and hard-to-reach places. With assistance, the incumbent pulls a swing stage up as many as five floors, and frequently works from ladders, swing stages, and scaffolding.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
