The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) involved in the installing, troubleshooting, adjusting, testing, modifying, calibrating, and repairing of aircraft electrical systems and equipment on board conventional aircraft supported by the organization and to provide training.
Duties
The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) involved in the installing, troubleshooting, interrogating, programing/reprograming, adjusting, testing, modifying, calibrating, and repairing of complex integrated aircraft electrical and environmental systems and equipment on board conventional/nuclear certified aircraft supported by the organization and to provide training to and evaluation of all assigned personnel, e.g., Active Duty, Reservist, Civilians, Contractors and foreign military as required in the accomplishment of duties set forth herein.
1. Performs troubleshooting of electrical or environmental systems and related equipment for assigned aircraft. Tests, corrects and maintains power control systems which include the tie-in of power and control circuits with other functional systems.
2. Installs, repairs, replaces, adjusts and overhauls complex and electrical/environmental systems, components, accessories, with intricate wiring armament, landing gear, antiskid, ignition, stall warning, power distribution, and fuel indicating systems.
3. Utilizes safety practices and procedures and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies. Uses personal protective equipment and complies with all appropriate safety and health directives.
4. Performs final functional and operational tests of the entire aircraft electrical or environmental systems and related.
5. Controls tools. Ensures tools are properly marked, calibrated (if necessary), and are secured when area is unattended. Reports any lost tools in accordance with applicable procedures.
6. Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program. Cleans work area and equipment. Maintains an organized work area and practices good housekeeping. Accomplishes daily cleanup of work area at designated times.

Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 Electrical Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do work as a Aircraft Electrician (Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic) without more than normal supervision.
1. Knowledge of assigned shop and trade practices. Ability to follow appropriate work practices including keeping a tidy, clean, and orderly work area.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of the electrical theory, principles, and circuitry and instruments used in shop and trade practices and knowledge of aircraft electrical systems and their relationships. Ability to apply technical practices in the performance of assigned work.
3. Knowledge of electronic principles in order to recognize types and sizes of resistors, capacitors, wiring, and transistors. Knowledge of the interface of electrical or environmental systems with hydraulic, electronic armament, instrument, and mechanical systems and assemblies.
4. Comprehensive knowledge of testing and troubleshooting techniques and procedures utilizing a variety of test devices and ability to analyze, modify, and repair complex electrical or environmental systems and components on assigned aircraft.
5. Skill in installing, relocating, and repositioning electrical and electronic components and wiring to facilitate installation of equipment. Ability to lay-out connecting circuits and make connections in order to prevent equipment or circuit overload or malfunction.
6. Skill in calibrating and adjusting components such as amplifiers, proximity boxes, generators, and voltage regulators. Ability to use and interpret computer data, wiring diagrams, technical data, blueprints, schematics, and engineering instructions.
7. Skill in tracing hard to locate and intermittent electrical defects and problems using a variety of meters and testing devices. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and technical orders. Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials accounting and security. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:
1. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in Unit Training Assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.
2. May be required to work overtime. Performs other related duties as assigned. This is a drug testing designated position. Performs uncommon tours of duty. May required to fly in military or commercial aircraft for TDY purposes.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Light to heavy physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from IO to 50 pounds, and occasional objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires climbing, standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time and working at heights of up to 65 feet. Requires good hearing and active hand eye coordination.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposed to prevailing weather conditions, and must work outdoors and indoors. Exposed to physical hazards of aircraft maintenance including, but not limited to, electrical shock, flight line noise and work during hours of darkness or darkened conditions lighted by means of artificial light.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
