The primary purpose of this position is to provide full performance level structural expertise on matters including carpentry, sheet metal, welding and masonry work required for installing, maintaining, operating, repairing and mobilizing structural war reserve materiel equipment.
Duties
Plan and lay out work required for recurring inventory and function check production schedules.
Plan and lay out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders in the construction and maintenance of expeditionary facilities and equipment.
Independently apply skilled methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, and modify a wide variety of structures, equipment and interior and exterior surfaces.
Utilize safety and compliance practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Use and maintain tools, equipment, computers and software.

- Will be required to train/guide lower graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
- May be required to be certified for working with and/or removing hazardous material.
- May be required to take occupational health examinations due to exposure to toxic paints, chemicals or other hazards.
- Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends or holidays in support of cargo movement support.
- Employee may be required to support special events, distinguished visitors, inspections etc.
- Must obtain and maintain training and licenses to drive and operate general and/or special purpose vehicles to include automobiles and mobile platforms such as scissor lifts and boom lifts.
- Must be able to lift and move materials up to 40 lbs unassisted or greater with assistance of lifting devices or other workers.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance And Operations Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Physical Effort: The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, standing, and stooping. On-site work typically requires crawling, climbing on ladders, scaffolds, and roof tops. Work encompasses strenuous physical exertion when bending and shaping the more complex items in handling larger and bulkier material. Requires physical effort which includes prolonged standing on production lines; climbing up and down ladders and scaffolds; working in cramped and awkward positions while installing items; and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and powered tools in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Is frequently required to perform heavy lifting up to 90 pounds in carrying various tools, equipment and material.
Work Conditions: Works inside shops and outside at job sites. In shops, is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment. At job sites, may be exposed to weather conditions and hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders and are subject to cuts, bruises, burns, and contusions. May work in confined areas, such as crawl spaces and attics that may be dusty and dirty. Uses protective devices such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, and gloves.
