You will serve as a Site Safety Manager (SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST) in the Public Works Department of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will conduct safety briefings, safety training classes, and professional development classes for leaders and managers. You will conduct investigations of mishaps involving time injuries and work related illnesses to determine cause factors including site observations, interviews, and technical research. You will advise on necessary corrective actions to prevent mishap recurrences. You will conduct inspections and surveys to uncover unsafe or unhealthful conditions and practices to ensure compliance with safety/health regulations, standards, and practices.

  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes when making site visits, as determined by site conditions and applicable safety regulations.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties:1) Utilizing safety and occupational health regulations, standards, principle, practices, and procedures; 2) Performing trade and labor occupations, maintenance work processes, facilities maintenance techniques, industrial work processes, material handling procedures; 3) Analyzing environmental conditions in order to identify failures in human or equipment performance and to recommend control measures; 4) Planning and/or evaluating basic building design, construction practices, and installation and operation of facility utility systems sufficient to evaluate work for compliance and safety; and 5) Operating computer systems and programs.
