Duties

You will install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and load new and existing electrical systems, lines, circuits, associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. You will plan and lay out the work, tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems and complete repairs/installations independently. You will work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the work. You will determine and place distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and install wiring, couplings, conduit relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You may be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
  • You may be required to obtain and maintain a current licenses to operate Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG), Bucket Truck and/or construction equipment.
  • You may be required to obtain and maintain special certification or license if assigned work requiring special certification or licensing to perform the work or the use specialized tools or equipment.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of an Electrician without more than normal supervision such as: 1) Repairing and maintaining electrical components, fixtures, and wiring for buildings, facilities, and structures; 2) Working from blueprints, wiring diagrams, drawings and manuals to plan and lay out routing, location, operation of lines, circuits, systems and equipment; 3) Replacing worn or bad switches, relays, and outlets by unscrewing or cutting wiring from connections, inserting the replacement, and splicing, tightening, and soldering wiring to connections; and 4) Installing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment using up to 600 volts.
