THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0483000 and is part of the IL AASF 1, National Guard.

Duties

As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8852-5/8/10, you will perform the full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of assemblies, system, and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft to include pre-inspection, daily inspection, pre- and post-flight inspections and such special inspections as required, including fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, an inspection of on board emergency equipment. Inspect for conditions such as oil, fuel, and hydraulic leak, cut lines, tires and loose panels. Launch and recover assigned and transient aircraft; perform inspections prior to takeoff. Install, align, and make needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions, hydraulic systems, etc., assisting Specialists as required. Accomplish adjustments to related systems which may be affected by repairs. Service aircraft with oil, de-icing fluid, fuel, and hydraulic fluid. Conduct checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc. Perform the full range of repair and testing of aircraft system, assemblies, and surfaces. Conduct ground functional tests of all aircraft. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft. Use a variety of methods involving test equipment, visual checks and instruments, diagnoses and identifies problem areas and determine the extent of repairs required. Conduct ground functional tests of all aircraft systems.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted - May not exceed the rank of MSG. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training that provides the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications; and skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUSTpossess specialized experience which includes 18 months of experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow; The ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and reassembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. WG-08 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes 12 months of experience or training in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs; Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance; Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.WG-05 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes 6 months of experience in use of common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision; and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade. In order to be considered qualified, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
