You will serve as a Technical Writer-Editor in the assigned department of NIMITZ OPERATIONAL INTELLIGENCE CENTER. This position is located in Suitland, MD. All Defense Intelligence positions under the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) are in the excepted service by specific statute, 10 U.S.C. 1601. This position is in the excepted service and does not confer competitive status.

Duties

Assists in the preparation of routine intelligence products developed by others for publication. Assists in facilitating all administrative and security requirements for routine analytic products, including rudimentary graphics preparation, metadata incorporation, approval routing, and archiving. Assists authors during the writing stage; verifies information using research and consultation with subject matter experts; examines the organization, length, and tone of material; edits text for clarity and accuracy. Identifies and pursues ways to improve and standardize analytic production; provides training for analysts that improves understanding of the production process and leads to better quality of written products. Assists in reviewing the content of community websites, blogs, and similar media. Assists in the preparation and presentation of routine briefings.

Requirements

Qualifications

GG-1083-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GG/GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector, such as: 1) Writing, reviewing, and editing technical material that will appear in publications, reports, and other finished products; 2) Compiling and editing both routine and complex intelligence products developed by others for publication by ensuring that the material conveys the correct intent, is arranged logically, presents the facts to support the conclusions, is in accordance with applicable policy, and is written clearly and interestingly for the intended audience; 3) Editing and preparing products for publication that depart from standard practice by independently utilizing experience and judgment; 4) Assisting authors with the writing and publication processes, including pre-writing, outlining, drafting, and disseminating; 5) Utilizing experience classification markings, security requirements, graphic preparation, and analytic tradecraft standards; 6) Communicating with authors and other stakeholders orally and in writing to improve products, implement changes, and reach consensus; and, 7) Researching, discovering, and otherwise staying aware of current tradecraft standards, security markings, and editing/reviewing best practices. -OR- Successfully completed a four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree; -OR- Successfully completed one full year of graduate level education. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GG-1083-07:

Successfully completed a four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree;

-OR-

Successfully completed one full year of graduate level education.

GG-1083-09:

Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree.

-OR-

Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree.

-OR-

Obtained an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.
