About the Position: This position is located in Directorate of Nursing at Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. This is an Open Continuous announcement. The first cut will be September 29, 2023.

Duties

Assist with activities of daily living for all patients. Assist medical personnel by handling and preparing items needed for procedures. Aid the medical staff in resuscitation during any emergency crisis in any hospital location where assistance is needed. Clean and decontaminate equipment on a rotating basis as required by infection control guidelines. Check supply cabinets and pyxis rooms to assure routine quantities are on hand.

• This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced certification (e.g., Advanced Life Support) does not supersede BLS completion.
• Position may be designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for a Nursing Assistant GS-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes one or more of these: Assisting care providers during examinations, procedures, or treatments; taking and recording patient vital signs; assisting patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs); and providing administrative support (i.e., answering phones and or faxes, patient transfers or admissions, ordering supplies, maintaining patient records or charts). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: Successful completion of at least a full four-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field of study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education in excess of 60 hours (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
