The position is an entry-level Airway Transportation Systems Specialist (ATSS). All duties of an ATSS are tied to maintaining safe and efficient operating capacity of the vast and complex network or electronics systems required for the world's largest air traffic control and navigation system. ATSS personnel install, evaluate, maintain, modify and certify facilities, services and equipment that support the National Airspace System (NAS).

Group Coverage Standard for Administrative and Management Positions in conjunction with the Individual Occupational Requirements for DOT/FAA Airway Transportation Systems Specialist, FV-2101.QUALIFICATIONS AT THE FV-F LEVEL BASED ON WORK EXPERIENCE:To be QUALIFIED: Applicants must document 3 years of full time (40 hours per week) general work experience that provided a basic knowledge of the principles of electronics, mathematics, computers, aeronautics, or related areas, or an understanding, both theoretical and practical, of automated systems operation, integration, management, and maintenance. Experience may have been gained in occupations such as computer specialist, electronics technician, telecommunications specialist, engineer, or other work related to this position.To be WELL QUALIFIED: Applicant must document 1 year of full time (40 hours per week) more specialized work experience that provided the opportunity to acquire and the need to apply practical and theoretical knowledge of the principles, functions, and processes associated with electronics and electricity concepts; computer systems and information management concepts; telecommunications concepts; and system management and integration methods related to the ATSS discipline specific systems and services.Applicants should include examples and detailed work experience in their resume.QUALIFICATIONS AT THE FV-F LEVEL BASED ON EDUCATION:To be QUALIFIED: Applicants must document a 4-year course of study or at least 24 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree in one of these fields: computer science, mathematics, electronics, physical sciences, information management, engineering, telecommunications, or other fields related to this position. Schools must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.QUALIFICATIONS AT THE FV-F LEVEL BASED ON A COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be qualifying for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.QUALIFICATIONS AT THE FV-G LEVEL BASED ON EXPERIENCE:To be QUALIFIED: Applicants must document 1 year of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the next lower level, that demonstrates an extensive knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory; knowledge and ability to use tools, materials, and various types of specialized test equipment for the maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing of COMMUNICATIONS, NAVIGATIONAL AIDS, AUTOMATION, RADAR, AND ENVIROMENTAL SYSTEMS such as:Software Programmer, Boiler Repair, Power Distribution Systems, Satellite Communications, Fire Control, TACAN airborne equipment, GPS repair, Home Based Hardware installations, Civil Engineering, other airborne equipment, and other similar equipment and systems.To be WELL-QUALIFIED: Applicants must document 1 year of specialized work experience with extensive knowledge and skill in the repair, installation, analysis, maintenance, troubleshooting, modification, and certification on COMMUNICATIONS, NAVIGATIONAL AIDS, AUTOMATION, RADAR, AND ENVIROMENTAL SYSTEMS such as:Industrial HVAC, Radio Controlled Equipment, Hardware Configuration, Sonar, TACAN ground equipment, Commercial/Industrial CPU Servicing, Instrument Landing Systems, Surface Search Radar, IFF, other ground-based equipment, and other similar equipment and systems.Applicants should include examples and detailed work experience in their resume.QUALIFICATIONS AT THE FV-G LEVEL BASED ON EDUCATION:To be QUALIFIED: Applicants must document one of the following: 1) Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 2) 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR 3) LL.M.; if related. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.FV-F KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:-Knowledge of basic electronics theory and/or basic electro-mechanical theory.-Basic knowledge of electronic test equipment commonly used to align, adjust and maintain electronic and/or mechanical equipment/ systems.-Basic knowledge of troubleshooting and repairing electronic and/or mechanical equipment/systems.-Ability to apply basic knowledge of electronics and/or electro-mechanical theory to troubleshoot and diagnose/repair electronic and/ or electro-mechanical equipment/systems.FV-G KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:- Knowledge of electronics theory and/or electro-mechanical theory.- Knowledge of electronic test equipment commonly used to align, adjust and maintain electronic and/or mechanical equipment/systems.- Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic and/or mechanical equipment/systems.- Knowledge of electronic and/or electrical theory; aptitude for solving mathematical problems (algebra and/or trigonometry to perform electronic/electrical calculations); read and interpret technical drawings; and apply basic physics theory.- Knowledge of the use of tools, materials, and various types of electronic test equipment required for maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing of NAS equipment/systems.- Ability to apply knowledge of electronics and/or electro-mechanical theory to troubleshoot and diagnose/repair electronic and/or electromechanical NAS equipment/systems using electronic test equipment and technical drawings.- Ability to apply knowledge of FAA orders and other publications to plan, coordinate, perform of logging and other documentation requirements following maintenance activities.
