About the Position: The Safety and Occupational Health Manager will work in the Headquarters, I Corps and JBLM Safety Office located at JBLM, Washington. This emergency essential and deployable position will serve as the principal Safety and Occupational Health Director over the III Corps Safety Program including assigned and attached active components and war-fighting units.

Duties

Serve as an explosive safety subject matter expert for the implementation of a comprehensive explosive safety program. Assist with developing explosive safety policies governing occupational safety criteria, guidelines, and standards. Develop explosive safety policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the command. Monitor effectiveness of explosive safety program covering a wide range of activities to include related ordnance systems, foreign, and foreign-captured ammunition, ammunition processing, transporting, and disposal. Monitor effectiveness of policy and procedures within subordinate Senior Command installations and in a deployed environment. Evaluate technical aspects of the overall explosives safety program. Investigate ammunition and explosive accidents and incidents, and weapon-related accidents and incidents. Conduct inspections and prepare surveys to determine compliance with safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain this license while employed
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 50% of the time
  • Required to complete a pre-employment physical
  • May be required to deploy with assigned unit for periods up 365 days and will be required to pass a military standard physical examination.
  • Immunization requirement - this is a deployable Department of the Army Civilian position. Must pass an Initial and annual medical examination and receive/maintain up-to-date required immunization for the overseas or deployed location.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. In accordance with AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, the employee must successfully pass a urinalysis screening prior to the appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid official government passport.
  • Subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
