You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Navy Installations of NAS KINGSVILLE TX.

Duties

You will advise managers on the best methods for implementing new approaches to deal with existing safety problems. You will analyze triggering factors and accident cause data to assist in the development of specific prevention methods. You will enter data into databases to set up and maintain files and records. You will brief command personnel on safety program to cultivate a safety culture where everyone takes responsibility for their safety and safety of others. You will interpret laws, regulations, or policies to provide guidance to managers or program officials. You will compose letters and special reports regarding safety and occupational health issues.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Analyzing data on work operations, mishaps, and safety practices to prepare reports of findings that propose corrective measures for unsafe conditions and hazardous work practices; 2) Investigating mishaps, hazard reports, and unsafe or unhealthful working conditions to protect personnel and property; 3) Advising personnel of safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes; and 4) Conducting safety and occupational health inspections and surveys to evaluate effectiveness of unit safety program. **NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position. Education

The following may be used as a substitute for specialized experience:
Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
Successful completion of an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
