Duties

Along with the Captain, serves as an advisor to the Warden and his staff in the formulation and implementation of institution policies, procedures and programs. Provides leadership and direction to the Correctional Services department. Assists in the planning, developing and administering of relations which ensure strict security and control of inmates in living quarters, work areas, and leisure time activities. Responsible for identifying correctional staff training needs and recommending appropriate training resources. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the qualifications necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience applying counseling and guidance skills and techniques in order to effectively influence the attitudes, behavior and work habits of inmates and interpersonal communications in order to instruct, advise and provide information and training. Experience developing budgets and preparing quarterly and annual reports for a department to meet custodial requirements, security concerns, inmate care, and administrative needs. Experience implementing departmental and agency laws, regulations and procedures applicable to a correctional management program to ensure maximum correctional impact. Experience enforcing security measures and protecting life and property. Experience in a prison or similar environment which required keen mental and physical effort in order to effectively recognize group or individual tensions, unpredictable behavior, and general sensitivity to signs of trouble which could result in injury. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
