This position of Mason is located in the Facilities Management Service and is under the direct supervision of the Carpentry/Paint Supervisor. The work involves the maintenance, repair, alteration and construction of exterior and interior surfaces and structures constructed of a variety of brick, block, stone, tile, plaster, concrete, sheetrock, and asphalt.
Duties
The mason receives assignments from the Carpentry/Paint Supervisor either orally or through work orders. Reviews work to be performed, interprets blueprints or sketches, and decides work methods or processes best suited to complete the work. Performs tasks independently, with little or no work direction. The finished work may be spot checked for adequacy and adherence to accepted trade practices. In decorative work, receives assignments as to end result desired and proceeds independently in outlining patterns and designs, determining methods and procedures, computing materials, and accomplishing assigned tasks. Will occasionally supervise lower grade employees on large jobs. The incumbent is responsible for wearing appropriate PPE while performing assigned tasks.
Performs other assigned duties; such as cleaning work area, maintaining stock supplies, clean all tools and equipment, etc.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent must be physically able to occasionally lift equipment/materials weighing up to fifty pounds and heavier objects with assistance or the use of proper mechanical devices. Incumbent must be able to stand for long periods and climb ladders and scaffolding. For low work, is required to stoop and bend.
