THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This Air National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD1636000 and is part of the TN 134th ARW, National Guard. This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 114 (Smoky Mountain Chapter).

Duties

As an AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC, WG-8602-10 (TITLE 32) you will Remove, install, certify, repair, modify, overhaul, and install turboprop engines, reduction gear boxes, turbine modules, compressor modules, auxiliary power units, propellers and related propeller components as required. Modify engines, propellers, auxiliary power units, and components in accordance with Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO) directives; removes and installs engine quick change kits; prepares engines for installation and installs engine and propeller assemblies on aircraft. Perform operational checks of installed propellers, engines, auxiliary power units and sub-systems during aircraft maintenance ground runs in accordance with approved checklists. Perform isochronal and special evaluations on engines, propellers and auxiliary power units. Perform aircraft full power runs and complete engine and propeller efficiency checks. Prepare man-hour data collection and required forms for input into the Core Automated Maintenance System (CAMS) or the G081 (AFI 22-2101, CAMS for Mobility). Maintain bench stock, parts, and equipment. Provide on-the-job training for assigned personnel. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations such as Operational Readiness Inspections, Inspector General and Unit Evaluation Inspections, mobility, and command support readiness inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

  • Preplacement Medical Requirements: Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the expense of the government, prior to beginning employment. Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.
  • Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
  • For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-4 through E-6 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience troubleshooting one or more types or models of malfunctioning conventional and/or modified aircraft engines while in the aircraft or in an engine test cell. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience Identifying and selecting alternative methods and trade techniques to adapt accepted repair procedures to new or unfamiliar engine or accessory systems, and to anticipate what tools and parts will be required, and to set up the work area; experience repairing and reworking engine parts and components. Experience reassembling accessories such as portions of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and trimming units to maximum operating capability. Experience using standard and precision measuring instruments such as vibration analyzers to detect and locate the source of vibration in propellers, reduction gears, or engine rotors. Experience operating diagnostic and on-board electronic equipment and systems to aid in identifying aircraft related problems that may affect engine operation. Experience adapting emerging technology developed within the field and utilizing new tools, test devices, and equipment associated with the trade, such as digital diagnostic equipment, on board electronic equipment and systems, engine analysis software, specialized measuring devices, and automated storage and retrieval of in-flight and historical performance data. Experience using pyrometers to check engine combustion and test benches that read multiple parameters in oil, air vacuum, and torque; experience retrieving and correlating engine and aircraft digital diagnostic data to observed or reported discrepancies; experience using engine analysis software to evaluate engine performance parameters and troubleshoot engine/aircraft malfunctions; experience making initial diagnosis, selecting appropriate tools to disassemble the engine or accessory systems; experience using test equipment to locate and determine the cause of the defect, such as possible material failure, foreign objects, or incorrect assembly, and determine the repairs needed; experience selecting appropriate troubleshooting techniques to identify engine malfunctions, including skill in interpreting crew reports and pilot reported discrepancies. Experience using and interpreting technical orders, manufacturers catalogs, maintenance bulletins, complex multi-view blueprints, schematic drawings, etc. to obtain the technical information needed to troubleshoot, assemble and trim engines.
