This position is at the Fort Mead, SD, VA Medical center and is within the Environmental Management Service.
Duties
Duties include may include but not be limited to:
Issue, alter, repair, and/or replace uniforms and scrubs as needed.; Complete a variety of construction and repair methods utilizing the ability to determine dimensions of patterns to figure yardage of fabric needed.; Conducts routine mending for specialty sewing projects.; Determine if linen and uniform items needing repair or need to be salvaged out.; Patches holes, repair tears and mend worn out areas.; Operates various types of equipment and machinery to include computer-controlled washers and washer/extractor machinery of various load capacities (i.e. 50lbs -400 lbs.); Manage proper storage of inpatient belongings.
Work Schedule: Fulltime; Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm
Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS:
Duties require sitting for extended periods performing continuous and repetitive movement with the arms, hands and fingers when placing and holding items in position for sewing or marking. Incumbent must also be on his/her feet for long periods making rounds to admission areas and pushing carts to and from the wards. Incumbent will be required to do moderate to heavy lifting when handling uniforms, carrying linen to and from shelving units or picking up luggage or other items.
