This position is a Nurse (Inpatient-Charge), Division of Nursing, located at the Red Lake Service Unit, Red Lake, MN. This position reports to the Director of Nursing or designee.
Open until Filled: This announcement is open until the vacancy is filled. It may be extended or closed prior to the current closing date. First cut-off date for applications is 09/26/2023 and every Tuesday thereafter.
Duties
Function as the nurse in charge, overseeing staff inpatient nurses assigned to the shift, administering to nursing personnel, etc.
Systematically assess patient care needs through analysis of data gained through interviews with patient and/or family, objective findings review of health record and consultation with physician and other staff members.
Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician such as medications, immunizations, treatments, intravenous fluids, nasogastric suction, irrigations, etc.
In absence of Head Nurse or Manager may assume responsibility for unit and/or facility management including preparing written assignments, providing guidance and leadership to nursing personnel of varied skill levels.
Accurately documents observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered and status of coordinated activities between nursing and the multi-disciplinary team.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
Basic Requirements for the GS-10 Grade Level
To qualify at the GS-10 (or equivalent) grade level, applicants must meet one of the following qualifications requirements:
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples Include: assign and monitor the specific duties of nursing personnel; identify and analyze problems to make well-informed decisions to meet patient care. Provide nursing care, triage patients, and intercept data about the patient's status in order to identify the patient care needed; independently plan, schedule and provide comprehensive nursing care in the inpatient department. Participates in problem solving to provide patient care in collaboration with medical staff, nursing personnel, and nursing administration.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
