About the Position: Serves as a Range Scheduler for the Range Branch, Training Division, Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security. Reviews plans and schedules prepared for execution of ground and air, live fire training conducted by various active and reserve personnel/units, including all elements of the Department of Defense; under the supervision of the Chief of Operations and the Senior Scheduler.

Duties

Identify requirements of training events in order to determine which resources are compatible for a specific event. Makes decisions relating to facility scheduling. Monitor and manage automated systems used for the scheduling of unit training and range operations in support of scheduling training resources to meet training requirements. Schedule resources for selected units and off post users which do not have a scheduler. Prepare and conduct scheduling and safety conferences with military and civilian personnel for the purpose of coordinating joint use and correcting conflicts in air, range, and land activities. Coordinate and advise internal and external sources actions restricting free access to roads and o.ff limit areas within the training area Maintain official records in order to provide technical data regarding utilization of facilities and scheduling of training resources. Track training activities within the training complex and determining which training areas can safely be used for recreational activities

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a Range Safety Certification Examination.
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid state driver’s license for operation of government vehicles in the performance of work. May be required to travel to attend various meetings and conferences.
  • May occasionally be required to work odd hours, including nights and weekends. Employee may be called back to work to support mobilization requirements.
  • Some overnight travel may be required, normally not to exceed one week in duration. Some weekend work, and work beyond the normal operating hours, may also be required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing the scheduling and allocation procedures for the Range, training complex, and training facilities. Providing training resource assistance, monitoring range operations for compliance with correct scheduling procedures; providing advice on efficient use of training and range area resources; and utilizing automated systems to maintain official records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailReasoningStrategic ThinkingTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
