About the Position: The Emergency Management Specialist is responsible for the EM operational program and development of the emergency medical operational plans. Incumbent is subject matter expert to the Commanding General, MSC, for emergency contingency operations, planning and exercises for AHC Ireland, Fort Knox, KY. At times, tour of duty may include weekends or nights to support training for or during actual emergency operations.

Duties

Evaluate emergency operational requirements imposed on the command are meeting objectives. Prepare emergency management policy and guidance for the command. Conduct meetings with various staff to provide information and implementation strategies of emergency services. Update emergency procedures as organizational changes arise. Serve as subject matter expert on policies, procedures, and activities pertaining to emergency management.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a favorable result from a National Agency Background Check.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has been designated Weather Essential. In the event of inclement weather conditions, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes coordinating emergency operational plans and advisory services for a medical facility or other organization; analyzing emergency operational plans and procedures are meeting objectives; providing information and implementation strategies for emergency management services; maintaining documents related to emergency management processes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
