About the Position: This position is with the Department Of Defense Education Activity; Office of the General Counsel located in Peachtree City, Georgia. Peachtree City is an award-winning master planned community located just south of Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1959, the city is home to a diverse population and provides the best residential areas, commercial areas, and community services to its citizens.

Duties

Maintains case and workload management systems. Organizes litigation case files into a current and coherent system Identifies legal precedents including laws and Executive Orders, as well as current government-wide and DoD regulations. Determine the appropriate records and data needed and the best approach to obtain the records/data. Analyzes information from a wide variety of legal periodicals. Prepares litigation calendars and organizes logistical arrangements for conducting witness interviews. Monitors status of pending legal, administrative, and other actions to ensure timely disposition by the action attorney. Prepares in final form a variety of internal and external correspondence.

Requirements

• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
• Direct deposit of pay is required.
• One year trial or probationary period may be required.
• Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
• This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation.

Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience which includes legal research; reviewing, organizing, and/or filing documents for inclusion in an administrative record (e.g., locating missing documents, inconsistent material, leads not investigated, etc.); preparing draft motions and briefs; and maintaining updates to a management system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-09).
