This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located within the US Army Corp of Engineers, New England District. Incumbent will serve as a Survey Technician Lead, who will share responsibility with the Section Chief for the accomplishment of all land surveying within the District.

Duties

Coordinate the work of field parties and various contractors. Maintain contact and coordinate work with other Government agencies. Provide survey expertise and guidance on the most complex, unprecedented and novel assignments. Direct the activities of subordinates and prepare schedules for completion of work. Responsible for the acquisition of all survey related equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license within 30 days of employment.
  • Regular visits to field crews requires working outdoors and walking over uneven terrain and aboard sea-going vessels.
  • Incumbent required to lift up to 40 pounds of equipment.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes meeting any THREE of following; 1) Conduct hydrographic surveys; 2) facilitate team member trainings; 3) review hydrographic survey data and prepare hydrographic survey plans; and/or 4) direct daily activities of field survey personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
