Duties
Provides knowledge of security equipment which directly affects each area of the institution. Analyzes mechanical, electrical, locking systems, engineering blueprints, weapon repair and schematics. Troubleshoots locks and locking devices, and makes necessary repairs using a variety of hand and power tools as they relate to carpentry, electricity, and masonry. Works with electric and electronic analysis meters for use in analyzing door interlocks and troubleshooting electrical and electronic problems. Maintains the armory where institution weapons and ammunition are stored, handled and prepared for transportation as needed. Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment maintained in the armory, and makes minor repairs as necessary. Maintains inventory and determines proper level of supplies and equipment required to keep the armory functional and ready in all respects. Sets up and monitors internal security programs to include instructions and procedures for office closing procedures and locking and unlocking procedures for safes, doors, and vaults. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff's correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualifications requirements. Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. OR Experience:One year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience that includes knowledge in training institution staff in all areas of security in order to maintain a high level of sound operational and structural security at the institution.
Experience in reading and comprehending technical publications, drawings, engineering blueprints, and schematics of buildings.
Experience that includes technical knowledge of prison locks and locking systems, including their application and use within a correctional setting.
Experience in analyzing and accessing the current condition of equipment and feasibility towards repair or replacement.
Experience in handling and maintaining a high level of technical and operational expertise in use of all emergency entry equipment, riot control equipment, chemical munitions, stun munitions and all special operations response team equipment.
