Duties
This position perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance mechanics. You will perform tasks from the following trades: Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, Roofing and minor Electrical work. You will receive work tasks orally and/or through work orders. The instructions are of a general nature, supplemented by your knowledge and understanding of the trade(s) involved with the maintenance or repair work needed. You are responsible for detailed layout, selection of tools and materials and for accuracy, completeness and adherence to standards. Assigned tasks are performed independently, with no technical assistance. Finished work is checked for adequacy by supervisor.
AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION:Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is a treasure of visual, geological and biological surprises --- a high mountain valley holding the tallest dunes in North America and flanked by some of the highest peaks in the Rocky Mountains; unique wind-powered geologic systems; insects physically adapted to life in the sand and found nowhere else; alpine lakes and tundra; disappearing creeks; interdunal wetlands and much more!Nestled in southern Colorado, North America's tallest dunes rise over 750 feet high against the rugged Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This geologic wonderland, containing over 30 square miles of massive dunes, became a national monument in 1932. With the passage of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve Act, resources now also include alpine lakes and tundra, six peaks over 13,000 feet in elevation, ancient spruce and pine forests, large stands of aspen and cottonwood, grasslands and wetlands --- all habitat for diverse wildlife and plant species. The city of Alamosa, Colorado, is 35 miles from the park and offers a full range of shopping, medical facilities and other amenities.
Government (park) housing is not available.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic WG-09 without more than normal supervision. Specialized experience must demonstrate the ability to perform the work as a Maintenance Mechanic at the journeyman level. At this level, the employee provides technical recommendations for methods, tools, and materials used in these trades as well as plan, layout all work to be completed and ensure proper selection of materials and manpower for the completion of projects. Must demonstrate ability at this level in two of the following trades: Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting or Roofing.(SCREEN OUT)
Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading).
Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.
Knowledge of materials.
Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic).
Use of Measuring Instruments.
