This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. 2-yr Flexible Length and Renewable Term Technical Appointment with option to indefinitely renew or make permanent. This position is with US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM), Soldier Sustainment Directorate Combat Feeding Division Food Engineering and Analysis Team Natick, MA.

Duties

Plans, organizes, directs, and conducts R and D in the food preservation and stabilization thrust area: Serves as a supporting member and/or project officer for S and T work efforts in support of the DOD Food Program. Plans and coordinates development efforts for new products based on technical creativity in conceiving ideas for feasible products and the use of novel food processing technologies. Studies product characteristics and optimizes food products considering utility, stability, acceptability, and nutritional requirements to meet the needs of the military services under various conditions.

Requirements

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • This is an Army Acquisition, Logistics and Technology Workforce position.
  • Selectees must meet position requirements for certification at Level Foundational in the Acquisition Career Field Engineering and Technical Management within 36 months of entrance on duty.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education ad or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Food Technologist: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in food technology, dairy technology, microbiology, biology, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline or field of biological or physical science. The course work comprised of at least 30 semester hours in the basic biological and physical sciences, and included at least 20 semester hours in food technology and closely related subjects, or 20 semester hours in subjects that can be applied directly to food technology. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 30 semester hours in the basic biological and physical sciences, and included at least 20 semester hours in food technology and closely related subjects, or 20 semester hours in subjects that can be applied directly to food technology. plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: General Experience: One year of general experience equivalent to the DB-01 (GS-04) grade level in the Federal service which includes:11) Applying principles of Food Science and Technology to the research and development of food products. 2) Applying principles of Food Science to the research and development of new and existing food technologies. 3) Providing data and/or findings of information on a variety of scientific issues related to food technology. And 4) Demonstrating the use of principles of food science and product development to formulate and optimize food products.
