This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU The SCI Program Coordinator duties and responsibilities center on the care management of veterans enrolled in the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Program. Manchester's SCI program includes Veterans with ALS and MS in addition to spinal cord injuries. The Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder program provides a full-range of care for all eligible veterans who have sustained injury of the spinal cord or have a generally stable neurologic impairment of the spinal cord. NOTE: Spinal cord injury (SCI) may be used interchangeably with SCI/D for the purpose of this document. The primary responsibilities of this position are two-fold: Clinical and Administrative Clinical Social Work duties involve providing case management services, evaluation/consultation, psychosocial assessments, placement services, and referrals to various community agencies and hospital services for the care of SCI Clinic Veterans. Duties include but are not limited to: The Program Coordinator completes a psychosocial assessment and periodic reassessments, as defined by policy, which provides a comprehensive database to identify psychosocial, social and vocational needs and the appropriate treatment and services to be provided for each SCI veteran served in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team, the Veteran, family members, caregivers and/or and significant others. The goal of the psychosocial assessment is to highlight the Veteran's strengths, limitations, and internal/external supports and service needs in order to optimize the Veteran's functional status. The Coordinator demonstrates an understanding of the range of treatment and skills needed for all adult patients including geriatric patients related to their physical limitations, psychological needs, substance abuse issues and age associated illnesses and conditions. The incumbent must have an understanding of the problems of advancing age and respect for the diversification of the aging Veteran population, being sensitive to human growth and development, age-appropriate needs, concerns of the geriatric Veteran and be able to provide current and advanced techniques to the treatment of the SCI Clinic population. Works within the interdisciplinary treatment team, to share in the development of a SCI treatment plan with the Veteran based on this psychosocial assessment, setting achievable treatment goals with the Veteran and family caregiver(s). The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to effectively utilize a broad range of treatment modalities. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm. Compressed/Flexible:Not Available. Basic Requirements: BASIC REQUIREMENTS. The basic requirements for employment as a VHA social worker are prescribed by statute in 38 U.S.C. § 7402(b)(9), as amended by section 205 of Public Law 106-419, enacted November 1, 2000. To qualify for appointment as a social worker in VHA, all applicants must meet the following: a. ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: To be appointed to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA, candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). b. CITIZENSHIP: Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part). c. EDUCATION: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. d. LICENSURE: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Social Worker (Program Coordinator), GS-12 (1) Experience and Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. (2) Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. (3) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. (b) Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. (c) Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. (d) Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
