About the Position: Saltwater Barrier is located about 2 miles from the town of Westlake, La which is 5 miles west off the city of Lake Charles, LA. The structure operates 16 hours per day 7 days a week. There are 2 shifts 6am to 2 pm and 2 pm to 10 pm.

Duties

Perform the full range of maintenance and repair work at the lock. Perform repairs and installations of hydraulic and mechanical systems. Inspect, adjust, lubricate, test, install, calibrate and/or perform major and minor repairs at regularly scheduled intervals. Disassemble electric/hydraulic systems or subsystems thereof to determine extent of repairs. Inspect, troubleshoot and/or rebuild electric motors, diesel and gasoline engines of associated equipment at the facility. Operate mobile land plant and floating plant equipment. Operate a variety of test equipment such as compression gauges, triplet multimeters, ammeters, ground fault circuit testers, and dwell meters. May occasionally be required to operate lock gates or other equipment to pass marine traffic. Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostic maintenance inspections and rebuilds lock and dam operating systems, machinery, and related equipment at navigational facilities.

Leading, implementing and maintaining a lock and dam site specific program of scheduled inspections, test operations, preventative maintenance, and repair. I am skilled in performing the replacement of a wide variety of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and mechanically interrelated facility equipment and controls, and I have the ability to troubleshoot and make all related repairs. I can perform operation of heavy equipment, e.g., excavators, tractors, etc.; perform operation of small motor vessels; and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controls (PLC). - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble Shooting Physical Efforts: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing and crouching. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Uses coordination of eyes, hand and feet, and also of legs and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined areas such as manholes. Climbs ladders and poles. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside during the day and at night, as required by emergencies, on high structures over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high tension electrical wires, and on scaffolds or slings. Occasionally, works behind bulkhead or in tunnels below water level. Is subject to falls, drowning, electrical shocks, injury and discomfort, exposure to moving equipment, machinery, loud noises, inclement weather, and dangerous icy conditions. Uses safety equipment such as life vest, protective hearing devices, hard hat, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing. Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
