You will serve as a TOOLMAKER LEADER in the MECHANICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will apply a wide variety of machine shop procedures, techniques, and shop mathematics.
You will report to Toolmaker Supervisor on status and progress of work, and the cause for any delay in work.
You will advise employees to follow instructions received from the Toolmaker Supervisor, and to meet deadlines.
You will provide enough work to keep everyone in the crew busy.
You will answer questions on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives.

- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

*Setting up and operating of specialized and precision machines (both conventional and CNC), adapting and setting up common machine tools, to perform special and precise machining operations by devising and constructing fixtures and holding devices.
*Planning, laying out, machining, assembling, hand fitting, and finishing to precise dimensions and close tolerances.
*Ability to work with machining properties of numerous metals, plastics, rubber, and other materials.
*Reading and interpreting complex blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
*Ability to find technical information directly related to work from publications, such as the "H-28 Handbook" and the "Machinery Handbook".
