About the Position: Serve as a Physical Therapist Assistant performing clinical and patient-related administrative duties, under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. Incumbent provides the full range of treatment and rehabilitation for neuromusculoskeletal dysfunctions of active duty and authorized DoD beneficiaries. Location: Physical Therapy Element, Physical Medicine Flight, 633d Operational Medical Readiness Squadron, Joint-Base Langley,-Eustis, VA

Duties

Provide a full range of physical therapy assistant examinations, and delivery of treatment. Assist the Physical Therapist in administering highly specialized, diversified, and non-standard treatments. Observe patients during treatments and evaluate data on patients' responses to treatment and report orally or in writing to the physical therapist. Assess and report on patients' response to treatment and as patient needs indicate, adapts, or makes changes in particular treatment approach. Measure patient's range-of-joint motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist physical therapist to compile data for patient evaluations. Operate equipment and implements, modifies and progresses exercise program in accordance with standard Physical Therapy practices. Administer physical therapy to general, medical, and surgical patients which involves the use of heat, cold, electricity, manual therapy and therapeutic exercises to treat physical disabilities, injury, and disease. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Employee must have a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Physical Therapist Assistant in any one of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Employee must fulfill the annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) for their state licensure requirements.
  • Employee must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Graduate of a Physical Therapy Assistant program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education, American Physical Therapy Association is highly desirable.
  • Three years of full-time equivalent clinical experience as a physical therapy assistant relevant to practice setting with high volume post-operative orthopedic rehabilitation is highly desirable.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station.
  • Work may require occasional weekend coverage in support of therapist on call.
  • Mandatory participation in 633d Medical Group and Joint Base Langley-Eustis training to include, but not limited to, Newcomers Orientation, and annual trainings directed by applicable Medical Group Instructions (MDGIs) or policies.
  • Must complete and maintain currency with required annual Air Force training via Advanced Distributed Learning Service (ADLS) and AFMS Med+Learn and other similar sites as instructed.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes implementing physical therapy treatment strategies, instructing on physical therapy plans, and providing status/progress reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Kinesiotherapy, Sports Medicine, Exercise Science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Licensure/Certification: **A current, active, valid and unrestricted license or certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant from a state, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States is preferred** Preferred and Desired: Associate degree from an accredited community college, junior college, college or university in a physical therapy assistant education program Maintain state Physical Therapist Assistance licensure through the National licensing board and have three (3) year experiences in an Outpatient Clinic setting.
