The Incumbent is employed in the Environmental Section, Facilities & Engineering Service (FES), Perry Point VA Medical Center. This section is responsible for the chilled water plants, steam and water distribution systems.
Duties
Major Duties:
Incumbent operates a centralized, multiple zone air conditioning plant that includes unusual equipment configuration requirements, a large number of components, controls, gauges and amount of auxiliary equipment, extremely large chillers that substantially exceeds the capacity of conventional systems, and sophisticated air conditioning systems and equipment that support specialized work activities with strict temperature and humidity variation restrictions.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Environmental Shop Supervisor and USRO Leader; however, during the evening and night shifts and on weekends and holidays, the incumbent will work independently. May receive telephonic work requests from the Boiler Plant Operator which will be accomplished and logged as required.
Makes major repairs under the guidance of the refrigeration mechanic and Environmental Shop Supervisor and USRO Leader to all air conditioning and refrigeration systems throughout the campus.
To accomplish a job, the incumbent must be well versed in the operation of centralized air conditioning equipment, heating and air conditioning controls, automated and manual steam, hot water, chilled water distribution valves and regulators and electrical distribution systems.
The incumbent troubleshoots and repairs window air conditioners, ceiling and floor mounted water cooled air conditioners. When repair of these in the field is impractical, incumbent removes and replaces the unit necessary to restore service to the affected area.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent is required to work with large, heavy hand tools and large pieces of equipment. Must stoop, bend, crawl above the ceiling and and the crawl space and climb ladders.
