This position is located at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Electrician installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests, and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) consists of two inpatient campuses located at Little Rock and North Little Rock, Arkansas. The Electrician performs work at both locations.

Duties

Duties: Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Performs preventative maintenance inspections and tasks on electrical systems and related components to determine wear, reliability and load capabilities. Installs and repairs distribution panels, boxes, and various electrical systems. Installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains electrical lines, circuits, and generator systems. Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and/or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. Assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures, using proper tools. Prepares sketches or follows blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensures conformance to building and safety codes. Interprets and applies manufacturer's handbooks, technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to determine material, tools, and equipment needed. Tests electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Uses a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps. Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools. Inspects electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:30am -4:00pm. Subject to change based on the need of the agency. Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD04510A Physical Requirements: Repairs and installations are made from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and in hard-to-reach places. This requires you to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The work requires frequent lifting and carrying of tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 20 pounds and, less often, up to 40 pounds.
