Position is located in the Business Office section of an ambulatory health care center. Work is to assist the supervisor by leading other members of the Business Office section. Work is also to perform one of the following types of work: accounts receivable work, medical coding work, billing work, and contact representative work. This position reports to Business Office Manager.

Duties

Leads employees: Accounting Technicians (GS-0525-06), Medical Records Technicians (GS-0575-07), and Contact Representatives (GS-0962-06/07). Responsible to the supervisor by ensuring that the work assignments of the other employees of the team are carried out by performing a range of duties. Calculate charges, prepare bills, and sends bills to third party payers and responsible parties. Maintain and control of unbilled claims. Review system generated reports daily to identify claims that are ready for billing. Correct rejected/suspended claims previously submitted to third party payers and intermediaries and patients accruing to hospital policy and procedures.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: For Grade GS-07 One fully year of specialized experience to at least the GS-06 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: submitting medical coverage claims to third party payers and responsible parties and rebilling or correcting billing of accounts previously submitted using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding procedures. Verify patient information, review reports to identify claims using various computer systems, and audits and ensures accuracy of all coding prior to processing. For Grade GS-08 One fully year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: work in leading others to get results in work associated with the mission of a Health Care Business Office i.e., accounts receivable, contact representative, health care, medical support assistant, and medical records work. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Education

As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
