This position is located within the Transportation Section at the VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) in Martinez, CA. The Motor Vehicle Operator drives various vehicles while transporting patients, employees, cargo and mail to different destinations such as various (VANCHCS) facilities, other medical centers and private residences.
Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The work of the position requires long periods of driving, lifting and normal dexterity. Moderate to heavy physical effort is required in the frequent handling of patients. Must be able to help non-ambulatory patients from vehicles, wheelchairs or gurneys. Such lifting may require considerable physical exertion since some patients are debilitated or paralyzed. Patients must be moved correctly while using proper body mechanics to prevent injury. Moderate physical effort is required in handling objects weighing up to 30 pounds and occasional handling of objects weighing over 50 pounds while loading and unloading cargo.
The person in this position is required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to inclement weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. Drives in all types of traffic, weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading or unloading vehicles. May be required to clean potentially infectious spilled bodily fluids such as blood, urine, vomit and feces from vehicle and equipment. Training to be provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE (SCREEN OUT): A current and valid state-issued Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement and Passenger Endorsement is required for this position. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your CDL driver's license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current and valid state-issued Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement and Passenger Endorsement.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
