Duties

Performs mechanical maintenance and repair on drainage well pumps and motors. This includes installing, pulling, servicing, repairing and adjusting pumps. Inspects condition of motor, thrust, guide bearings, impellers and shaft to determine when parts or components of the pump need to be repaired or replaced. Dismantles and reassembles pumps when overhauls and repairs are done. Removes and presses bearings and replaces gaskets and seals prior to reassembling pumps. Maintains and repairs flow meters. Determines when parts or components need to be replaced. Replaces bearings, assemblies, and registers; cleans and reassembles. Develops observation and production wells. Places screens, airlifts fines and sediments, grouts casing, and installs test pumps. Performs preventive maintenance on drainage wells to improve productivity which includes chlorination, acidization, and cleaning. Operates power auger drill rig to drill shallow wells up to a depth of 100 feet for developing new drainage wells, observation wells, instrument monitoring wells, and for special sampling studies. Operates a variety of heavy-duty mobile equipment such as backhoes, auger rigs, boom trucks, and pump rigs incidental to pulling pumps, removing pump motors, carrying heavy materials, and drilling shallow wells. Maintains maintenance logs; labor, materials, and equipment costs associated with each work order as required by the Power Operations and Maintenance Management System (POMMS) or other management reporting programs.
